Casey Marie Johnson died August 27, 2012, surrounded by his long-time vet and his people.  He was 17 years old and had been in declining health for the past two weeks.  He was a brave and dignified cat, unafraid of new things, including stairs and hardwood floors. When he moved to his new house six years ago, he immediately inspected the premises, all three floors, unlike his wussy four-legged house mates, who all hid under couches and tables.

He was very friendly and liked to meet new people. He never hissed or ran from strangers. He loved to be petted, but he didn’t mind giving the hands that petted little love bites to set them straight if he had to.

Casey’s  favorite pastimes were lying in the sun and eating. He especially liked sweets and could smell ice cream from the third floor. He became rather portly in his later years and it would not be an exaggeration to say that he often thundered down the stairs and through the house if there was food to be had.

His body was laid to rest with his first person in an undisclosed location, but their spirits, the essence that made them, them, are somewhere having a good talk and some ice cream and cookies.

Casey his survived by his people, Jim and Carol Johnson, and his house mates, Clancey, Blinken, Baxter, and Barney.

  1. Oh honey, I’m so sorry for your loss. I know he was one of your babies and this hurts like hell. Wish I was a good enough writer so I could create words of such stupendous beauty you would be touched and know how many of us there are out here, wishing the pain will lessen soon.

  4. Carol….you can take solace in knowing that Casey had a great life with his other four-legged family members and you and Jim…just remember…he is not gone…just gone ahead. Lily

  5. So sorry for your loss. Your words paint a picture and keep his spirit with us right now. All of us with elderly animals know the fear, but you’re courageously living through the time right now. Take care
